Strategies for the Military Aff

1. 1AC in the File: College First, GED Plus, Heg + Economic Competitiveness

Order of importance:

-GED Bad PIC (Thesis: College First only; having lots of GED hurts retention (turns readiness))
-Military Budget Trade-Off DA (Thesis: expanding spending on social services w/in the military trades-off with tankers)

-CASE STRATEGY
-Because the CP turns readiness, you just need to focus on recruitment levels uniqueness (so recruitment high and will continue to be high regardless of the plan) AND competitiveness advantage (which is based primarily on GED, not College First)
-focus your strategy on these case arguments because they cover the parts of the aff that the CP can’t solve as well

-Politics DA (plan is popular, so prob. Cap and Trade)

2NR (choose one):

1. GED Bad PIC w/ case arguments (competitiveness, readiness; the CP solves RMA and some of readiness)

2. Military Budget Trade-Off DA w/case arguments (competitiveness, readiness, and RMA)

3. Politics w/case arguments (competitiveness, readiness, and RMA)

Second strategy option for File version of the 1AC without the CP:
(Just the non-counterplan options)

-Military budget trade-off da (read all case args EXCEPT heg defense)

-Politics (read case args INCLUDING heg defense)

-Case (focus on arguments why the status quo is sustainable)

2NR (choose one):

-Military budget trade-of da w/ case (special emphasis on competitiveness on case, but also readiness and RMA)

-Politics da w/case (competitiveness and readiness and RMA)

2. 1AC without competitiveness: College First, GED Plus, Heg (LIKE THE PLAN IN THE DEMO DEBATE)

-2 Counterplan Options

-Advantage counterplan for hegemony (do something to boost hegemony) to solve that advantage

-States CP to give incentives for enlistees to go to college
-doesn’t solve RMA as well, but its still a post-enlistment incentive
-doesn’t solve recruitment as well, but just focus your cards on case that recruitment is fine right now

-Net Benefit Options:
-Military Budget Trade-off Da
-Politics Da

2NR (choose one):

-Military Budget Trade-off Da w/ case
-CASE: recruiting high now, standards are high now

-Politics Disad w/case
-CASE: recruiting high now, standards are high now, heg defense

3. 1AC w/ “persons living in poverty”

-Poverty K and/or CP to do universally

4. 1AC w/o “persons living in poverty”

-T "for" persons living in poverty

REVIEW: POSSIBLE 2NR OPTIONS (choose ONE)

-Topicality "for"
-GED PIC (w/case arguments)
-Military Budget Trade-Off DA and Case (w/option of an advantage CP or state CP; if going for military trade-off, don't read heg defense)
-Politics Disad and Case (w/option of an advantage CP or state CP; if going for politics, read heg defense))

Strategy to the Marriage Aff

Preferred 1NC
- T Substantial
- Don’t increase CP
- Pick a Disad (Fiscal D is the most clear net benefit, but all can be explained as net benefits to the CP)
o Politics (spending unpopular)
o Fiscal Discipline DA
o Immigration DA
o Military DA
- Case defense
o Takeouts to each of the advantages

2NR for this strategy - PICK ONE:
- T Substantial
OR
- "Don't Increase" CP + one of the DAs
OR
- one of the DAs + case defense

Second 1NC Option
- T Substantial
- Courts CP
- Politics
- Fiscal Discipline DA
- Case Defense

2NR for this strategy - PICK ONE:
- T Substantial
OR
- Courts CP + one of the DAs
OR
- one of the DAs + case defense

3rd Option
- T Substantial
- No CP
- Politics DA
- Immigration DA
- Military DA
- Case defense

2NR for this strategy - PICK ONE:
- T Substantial
OR
- one of the DAs + case defense

Strategy to the Abortion Aff

Topicality
T – remove a barrier
T – current plan doesn’t say “persons living in poverty”

Case stuff
There are frontlines to the advantages and solvency in the file. In addition:
There is more human rights defense in the poverty neg
There is a Don't Ask Don't Tell DA in the poverty neg, which is a turn to the equal protection spillover advantage
There is the positive rights bad argument in the Court DA file

Counterplans
All CP options probably need to engage the equal protection advantage.

States CP
Net benefits: Politics DA, Court DAs, Spending DAs, and the equal protection turns
And you can use the state felon voting cp in the poverty neg with a twist

Congress CP
Net benefits: Court DAs and the equal protection turns. And it can easily be argued that it solves the aff better.

Privacy CP
Net benefits: Equal protection bad

Advantage CPs from the poverty neg
Death penalty CP to solve human rights
Gender/marriage CP to solve gender

DAs
Politics
Court DAs
Spending or tradeoff
Probably difficult to win a link to the ‘poverty good’ DAs

Critiques
There's a Foucault link for sure, but there's decent aff arguments and they might win a turn. I'd caution against running it unless you feel confident debating these questions.

Three pronged test for your negative strategy:
1. Do I have a counterplan to help me neutralize the abortion access advantage?
2. Do I have a well developed argument that helps me reduce the risk of the equal protection/spillover advantage?
3. Do I have a DA that can outweigh whatever advantage they might have left?

1NC ideas:
T - living in poverty
CP (pick one)
One or more of the listed net benefits for that counterplan (probably the court legitimacy DA is best if you're reading states or Congress)

Case:
Defense on abortion access
No spillover
Equal protection bad
Can't solve/no enforcement

Strategy to the Prisons Aff

Strategy to the non-citizen (regular) Aff

First Strategy
ONE T violation - menu of options are 1. Living means must be a US citizen (this is in the neg file) 2. "for" means only for people living in poverty and the plan helps immigrants who may be above the poverty line. (you'd need to write this T violation)
Kritik - combine some of the cards from the "security 1ac" in the aff file with the Biopolitics negative kritik file
States CP -
ONE DA- the menu of options are Funding Trade-off, Politics, or the CANADA DA(highly endorsed)
Case defense - check both the neg file and the "straight up poverty + twist" 2nd wave file. Do NOT read the advantage counterplans if you are going to read a CP

2nr options:
1. T for the 5 minutes
OR
2. Kritik for 5 minutes
OR
3. states CP + your DA
OR
4. Case + your DA

Second Strategy
ONE T violation - menu of options are 1. Living means must be a US citizen (this is in the neg file) 2. "for" means only for people living in poverty and the plan helps immigrants who may be above the poverty line. (you'd need to write this T violation)
Kritik - combine some of the cards from the "security 1ac" in the aff file with the Biopolitics negative kritik file
Employee PIC (labeled as such in the neg file)
the Competitiveness net benefit for the Employee PIC
Politics
Case defense - check both the neg file and the "straight up poverty + twist" 2nd wave file. Do NOT read the advantage counterplans if you are going to read a CP

2nr options:
1. T for the 5 minutes
OR
2. Kritik for 5 minutes
OR
3. Employee PIC + Competitiveness net benefit
OR
4. Case + your DA

Strategy to the detention center Aff

First Strategy
Kritik - combine some of the cards from the "security 1ac" in the aff file with the Biopolitics negative kritik file
T subsets - you would say that they only affect SOME people in poverty and that the resolution requires them to affect all people
States Counterplan - I would replace the usual solvency cards with some of the "states have jurisdiction over immigration" cards
ONE DA- the menu of options are the ICE Trade off DA in the case neg, Spending trade off from the 2nd wave neg file, or politics. (if you are very speedy, then you can choose TWO DAs)
Case defense - check both the neg file and the "straight up poverty + twist" 2nd wave file. Do NOT read the advantage counterplans if you are going to read the states CP

2nr options: (all are equally good)
1. the kritik for all 5 minutes
OR
2 T for all 5 minutes
OR
3. States CP + ONE DA
OR
4. Case take outs + ONE DA

Second Strategy
Kritik (see above)
T subsets (see above)
Courts CP - have the Supreme court rule that further health care must be provided. You would need to win that Congressional over-sight is not key. I do not know if this CP will work out, but there is a decent chance it could work
Politics DA
*do NOT read the ICE funding trade-off with this strategy*
Case defense - check both the neg file and the "straight up poverty + twist" 2nd wave file. Do NOT read the advantage counterplans if you are going to read the Courts CP

2nr options:
1. Kritik - see above
OR
2. T - see above
OR
3. Courts CP + Politics

Softpower Adv. CP
Kritik--Refugee Label, Legal Order

Strategy to the Securitization Immigration 1ac

These strategies are not tested and tried. Just some options to mix and match
Topicality
same options as above
"social service" - does providing equal access really make it a social service???
Counterplan options
Courts CP with a politics DA (be careful what your impact is!)
States CP with a politics DA (see above)
CP to do something else nice to immigrants (open the borders?) and use the medical links in the biopolitiks file as a reason that we should *not* start with health care.

case args
1. alternative causalities - health care can't change the overall societal views of immigrants as a threat
2. law link - they leave legal structures in order - labeled as "law link" in the K file
3. the "law - racist impact" card in the neg K file would imply that leaving all current structures is bad
4. plan still excludes some - that's one of our link files in the K file.
5. "equal access" - look for the links to this option. Also I'm not sure that this means the plan does very much.
6. BACKLASH - access to socials ervices will create an incentive for a reactionary treatment to other areas of immigration plicy - proven by "immigration reform" discussions always being couched in terms of access to those who live in our society, but also increasing enforcement to exclude others from "infiltrating" our society.

these case args would be offense if it proves they are not the way to work. You could read a geneology type alt ( i think it's the benir card in the file) and make that the alt.
